🌸 About Helleborus Pippa’s Purple
Helleborus Pippa’s Purple (also sold as Frostkiss™ Pippa’s Purple hellebore) is an evergreen perennial prized for its early late-winter to early-spring blooms and attractive foliage. It makes a beautiful addition to shaded garden borders, woodland gardens, and containers.
Key Features:
Flower Appearance: Smoky purple-pink to plum flowers with deep burgundy speckles — often facing outward for excellent garden display and even use in cut arrangements.
Foliage: Evergreen dark green leaves marbled with silvery veins, providing interest year-round even when not in bloom.
Growth Habit: Mounded clump of foliage with flower stems rising above; typically grows to ~18–24 inches tall and wide.
Growing Conditions: Best in partial shade to shade with moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.
Garden Benefits: Deer-resistant and hardy perennial; often one of the earliest blooms in the garden season.
This hellebore variety is sometimes described as a “Lenten rose” (despite not being a true rose) because of its early blooms around late winter to early spring.
Where to Use:
Ideal for shade gardens, woodland settings, mixed perennial borders, and containers — especially where early season flower color is desired.
