Brunnera macrophylla 'Alexander's Great' is a cultivar of Brunnera, a genus of herbaceous perennials in the Boraginaceae family. This cultivar is a relatively new introduction, developed by Hans Simon of Germany and introduced in 2012.
'Alexander's Great' is a large Brunnera cultivar that typically grows up to 18-24 inches tall and wide. It is noted for its oversized leaves, which can measure up to 14 inches across, making it one of the largest-leaved cultivars of Brunnera available. The leaves are a bright green color with silver veining, and they form a dense clump that makes a striking ground cover.
In the spring, 'Alexander's Great' produces clusters of small, light blue forget-me-not-like flowers on tall stems that rise above the foliage. The flowers are attractive to bees and other pollinators.
Like other Brunnera cultivars, 'Alexander's Great' prefers partial to full shade and moist, well-drained soil. It is a low maintenance plant and is not prone to pests or diseases. It is an excellent choice for woodland gardens, shady borders, and as a ground cover under trees and shrubs.
